Hostinger Renewal Pricing Explained: What to Check First

Hosting has two prices: the one you pay to start, and the one you pay to stay. The first gets the banner. The second usually decides whether the plan was good value. This guide explains how Hostinger's renewal pricing works and how to compare plans on what they'll really cost you.

Hostinger renewal pricing explained

Why renewal pricing matters

Renewal pricing matters because the introductory rate only covers your first billing term. After that, Hostinger bills the plan at its regular rate, and for most people the site keeps running for years past that first term.

The difference isn't small. In a real Hostinger cart on 15 October 2026 (Premium web hosting, 48 months, US-dollar store, before tax), the plan cost $2.99 a month for the first term and renews at $10.99 a month. That's about 3.7 times the starting rate. With a 20% coupon on the first term, the gap grew to about 4.6 times.

Introductory vs renewal pricing

The introductory price is a discounted rate for your first billing term; the renewal price is the regular rate after it. Hostinger shows both in the cart: the introductory total in the order summary, and the renewal in a small line under the plan name, such as "Renews after 48 months at $10.99/mo for 12 months."

That one line tells you three things:

  • When the higher price starts (after 48 months here)
  • How much it is ($10.99 a month)
  • For how long the renewal term runs (12 months)

Read it before you pay. It's the most useful sentence in the whole checkout.

Why monthly-equivalent pricing can be misleading

A "per month" price on a long plan is a division, not a bill. $2.99 a month on a 48-month term means one upfront payment of $143.52, divided by 48 to make it look small.

The term you pick changes the monthly figure dramatically. In the India storefront, the same Premium plan showed these prices before GST on 15 October 2026:

OptionMonthly equivalentPaid upfront
1-month term₹599₹599, renewing at ₹599 each month
48-month term₹149₹7,152
48-month term with a 20% coupon₹119.20₹5,721.60
Renewal after 48 months₹449billed for a 12-month term
Hostinger monthly price by billing term

Two things stand out. The long term is genuinely cheaper per month: ₹149 against ₹599. And the renewal rate, ₹449, sits much closer to the monthly price than to the introductory one. The low figure is the reward for committing upfront, and it ends when the first term does.

Billing term and upfront cost

A longer term lowers the monthly rate but raises what you pay on day one. That trade-off is worth thinking through rather than defaulting to the longest option.

  • Long terms (24–48 months) give the lowest monthly rate and push renewal years away, but they ask for the most money now.
  • Short terms cost more per month, but you're committed for less time. In the cart I tested, the 1-month plan also didn't get a free domain and wasn't eligible for the coupon.
  • Refunds: the cart advertised a 30-day money-back guarantee. Read Hostinger's refund policy for its exclusions before relying on it.

A useful rule: pick the longest term you're confident the site will still be running for, not the longest term on offer.

When a shorter term is the better choice

The cheapest monthly rate isn't automatically the best buy. A shorter term can be the smarter choice when:

  • The project is an experiment. If you aren't sure a site will last a year, paying for four years upfront is a bet you may lose.
  • You're still testing the host. Use the refund window to check speed and support, and commit to a long term once you're happy.
  • The site has an end date. An event or campaign site that runs for a few months doesn't need a multi-year plan.
  • Cash flow matters more than the total. A smaller upfront payment can be worth a higher monthly rate.

Remember the trade-off from the previous section: no free domain and no coupon on the 1-month term. If the site turns out to be a keeper, look at a longer term when it's time to renew.

Domains, email, backups and extras

Several things that are free at checkout are free for the first year only. Check each one separately:

  • Domain: on the 48-month Premium plan, the cart included a free domain for one year. From year two you pay the standard domain rate.
  • Email: the plan's two mailboxes were labelled free for one year on long terms (and for one month on the 1-month plan).
  • Backups: check how often backups run on your plan and whether more frequent backups are a paid extra.
  • Add-ons: anything ticked in the cart, such as an ecommerce add-on, has its own price and renewal terms.

Taxes and regional pricing

Tax is added at checkout and depends on where you are. Hostinger shows plan prices before tax, then adds VAT, GST or sales tax as a separate line. In India, for example, 18% GST took the 48-month Premium total from ₹7,152 to ₹8,439.36.

Prices and promotions also differ between storefronts, so compare plans in the store you'll actually buy from, with tax included.

How coupons affect the first term

A coupon lowers the first-term price only. In my 15 October 2026 test, a 20% coupon reduced the first-term price of new plans on terms of a year or more, and wasn't accepted on a 1-month term. The renewal rate printed in the cart didn't change.

If you want the code, the checkout steps and what to do when it won't apply, see the current Hostinger coupon guide.

What coupons usually don't guarantee

  • A lower renewal price
  • A discount on every product or billing term
  • A discount on top of another promotion already in the cart
  • That a percentage shown on a banner is what you'll save on your total
  • That the plan is the right fit for your site

How to compare real total cost

Compare plans on total cost over the time you'll actually use them. The method is simple:

  1. Write down the first-term total, tax included.
  2. Add the renewal cost for each extra year you expect to stay.
  3. Add the renewal of anything that was free in year one, such as the domain.
  4. Divide by the number of months to get your real average.

Here's that method applied to the India Premium prices above, over five years and before GST:

  • Paying month to month: 60 × ₹599 = ₹35,940
  • 48-month term, then one renewal year: ₹7,152 + (12 × ₹449) = ₹12,540
  • The same with a 20% coupon: ₹5,721.60 + ₹5,388 = ₹11,109.60
Five-year cost of a Hostinger plan by billing option

Over five years, paying monthly would cost almost three times as much as committing to the long term. The monthly plan buys flexibility, and for a short-lived project that can be worth it. For a site you intend to keep, the long term wins, and the renewal year is a large part of the total either way. These sums leave out tax and domain costs, which you'd add on top for any option.

Five questions to ask before buying hosting

  1. What will I pay today, tax included?
  2. What is the renewal rate, when does it start, and for how long?
  3. Which "free" items renew after year one?
  4. How long will this site realistically run?
  5. Would this plan still make sense at the renewal price?

If the answer to the last question is no, the introductory price is hiding a problem, and a coupon won't fix it.

Frequently asked questions

Does Hostinger increase the price at renewal?

Yes. The introductory rate covers only the first billing term. Renewal is charged at the regular rate shown in the cart, which in my test was about 3.7 times the introductory monthly rate.

Where can I see the Hostinger renewal price?

In the cart, in the line under the plan name, for example "Renews after 48 months at $10.99/mo for 12 months."

Is a longer Hostinger plan cheaper?

Per month, yes: ₹149 on 48 months against ₹599 on 1 month in the India store. You pay more upfront, though, so choose a term you'll actually use.

Does a coupon reduce the renewal price?

No. Coupons reduce the first term only.

Do the free domain and email renew for free?

No. In the carts I checked, they were free for the first year (or month, on a 1-month plan), then billed normally.

How do I compare Hostinger plans fairly?

Add the first-term total to the renewal cost for each extra year you'll stay, include tax and year-one extras, then divide by the months. Compare that average, not the banner price.
